Assessment & Development Center
Assessment Center
What is an Assessment Center?
An Assessment Center is the last part of a recruitment and selection process, whether internal or external. The purpose is to support the final decision of hiring a candidate for a specific position while maintaining an objective approach in the decision-making process.
The Assessment Center is based on a proven method to objectively evaluate and validate the skills of one or a pool of candidates by using several sources of information coming from different situations and contexts.
What is evaluated and how?
The focus is given on what the “candidate” does or what he/she can do and not only on what he/she is in terms of diploma, intellectual level, professional or personal environment, etc.
Concrete situations through “business cases”, whose best-known simulations are the “in basket” exercises, are included in the assessment program together with the numerical and verbal tests:
The Assessment Center validates key competencies in the areas of interpersonal and personal functioning, management, information processing, task prioritization, problem solving and analysis of business situations.
The assessment program is defined after an in-depth analysis of the job content, the company’s expectations and the key competencies to be assessed.
The combination of psychometric tools, practical exercises and competency-based interviews is designed to fit all types of jobs.
A full day, or half-day, is dedicated to identify a candidate’s key competencies, what they can do, the behavior they adopt, the way they solve problems and how they communicate their recommendations.
- Numerical, verbal and inductive test
- Personality questionnaire based on OPQ® or DISC®
- In-basket exercises
- Competency-based interview

Development Center
Although the purpose is different, a Development Center shares some similarities with an Assessment Center. Indeed, a Development Center is dedicated to personal development whereas an Assessment Center is related to a selection process.
Upon a company or an employee request, a Development Center highlights key competencies and areas of development for a specific position in the context of career development.
The selected key competencies are assessed through a proven methodology during a full – or half-day -, and will potentially lead to a coaching or training program for development.
